More than likely you will be hiring a "Y" generation person (if not already) that is in their 20 somethings. They have grown up with multi-media and multi-communcating. They would rather text than talk at times and tend to prefer interacting electronically than one-one. At times the traditional office style environement may not be the most productive, let alone the technology you have or are using may seem a little antiqated to them.

If you should hire a "Y" generation sales person, they may expect some form of PDA and internet access so they can quote a price & close an order immediately. They may look at the amount of paper you use and have multiple suggestions on how to better store and track that information electronically. Good news and bad! Here is how Dr. Ramirez discribes some of the behavioral aspects of the generation's psyche: "The first 'digital natives' have never known a world without cell phones and online games; They have networked with hundreds of people they've never met before and probably never will meet face-to-face; They learn from electronic equipment faster than schools are equipped to teach; Their creative solutions are as limitless as the World Wide Web; these young professionals have truly tapped a globalized market through the use of the Internet and social networking services. These 20-somethings interact with each other differently than any generation before and they react to other generations very differently."

The good news is that knowing these behaviors, you can take advantage of their "built-in" knowledge and usage of technology. A few ways are to understand some of their needs before you hire them for a specific job. Another is to let them have some freedom and give you their thoughts on how "THEY" would operate the business using technology - make sure there are no reprecussions and you are grateful for a "ALL" ideas. You might not only be surpised by the "out of the box" thinking but gain the value of a business analysis with no hidden agenda.

Remember - technology is only as good as it's capabilities are utilized. Stat's dictated that most businesses only use about 20% of the technology they have in house today!
