Sharepoint - what the heck is it?

In simple English, Sharepoint is a software product that allows you a tremendous expansion of ways to share information, especially with your staff.
For example: We recently helped a company set up Sharepoint on their Intranet site. One of the objectives was to use this to centralize the training demo's and modules for their newly purchased software products training. This enabled the business to more easily post and track the activity while allowing quick and easy access from the remote locations. Staff members were also able to access the information and participate in the training sessions while at home in their pajamies.
The OEM software company stated that this has never been done before. One reason is that most product vendors don't go far enough in thinking out of the box for the integration of other products and their expanded usage. This is partially due to the fact that they do not receive any revenue for these integratable products but more so...don't understand enough about them.
If you are considering a software upgrade; have mutiple remote locations and/ or have an intranet site, I strongly urge you to do some reaserch on this product and see if it can improve your ability to communicate.
