One great aspect of living in Northeast Ohio, is that one does not have to go far to meet like-minded small business owners.  I have the pleasure of being the "Franchise Expert In Residence" on a high-powered and influential blog that is run right out of Northeast Ohio.  It has won many awards, and Anita Campbell is one of the top "trend" writers in the country. Anita is based in Medina,Ohio, and is a popular member of COSE.

I recently wrote an article titled "5 Fantastic Things About Franchising," and got some interesting comments.  I consider myself to be pretty balanced when it comes to writing about my speciality, even leaning a little negative, sometimes.  I do that because I do not want prospective franchise owners to think that all they have to do is pay a franchise fee, open the doors to their businesses, and count the money that's coming from the never ending throng of customers, just waiting to spend it at their store. Rarely does that happen.

Franchising can be a great thing for the right person, who chooses the right quality franchise. For some, it cvan be a nightmare.  Choose wisely.

 Of course the most well known reason to go into a franchise is this one:

1. A Proven Model

When you purchase a franchise, the thing that you are really purchasing is a business model.  You are purchasing the rights to use someone else’s idea.  This someone (the franchisor) has put their idea into an organized, easy to follow operations manual.  In other words, you are replicating the franchisor’s business.  The obvious advantage is that you don’t have to “invent” anything of your own to start a business.  It’s already been invented.
