You know the type. They stalk you when they find out you may have a little money to invest. They seem to find you, just when you think it is safe.
I am talking about those unprofessional salespeople that always seem to spring up when times get tough.
In my industry, {The franchise industry}, these types of salsespeople may be found working for specific franchise opportunities. They are real aggressive, because their sales quotas have not been made. {The slow economy is affecting the franchise industry, so the number of people who may want to take a risk, and invest in a business of their own is lower.} These salespeople may press pretty hard for you to take action. My suggestion is to slow things down a bit, and really look into the opportunity you are thinking of.
The other type of franchise salesperson may be a franchise consultant or broker. {Similiar to what I do.} When you look at franchises online, some of the major franchise brokerage groups may be able to purchase your information, and will try to call you or email you to see if they can help steer you to something that they work with-franchise wise. My 1st rule. Only work with local franchise consultants or brokers. Make sure they have at least 2 years of documented experience helping local residents get into businesses of their own. {If they originally came from the franchise industry, that is also a big positive.}
In summation, watch out for opportunity seekers. Only work with local reources who can be vetted, and have a documented history of helping others get into their own businesses. Those are 2 ways to lower your risk in a business venture of your own...
Here is an article that discusses this in depth. It is called-Franchise Caution.
