IRS Reduces Businesses Tax Package Mailings
In a cost cutting move the IRS has been reducing the number of tax form packages being mailed to businesses. In the past those businesses who filed electronically or used a paid preparer were the most likely candidates not to receive a tax package the following period. Tax packages being affected include 940, 941, 1120, 1120S and 1065.
The Internal Revenue Service estimated that in the fourth quarter of 2007 5.5 million 941 packages were mailed but only 1.5 million were returned. So, for the first quarter of 2008 the IRS mailed out complete 941 tax packages to the 1.5 million who used the IRS preprinted forms in the prior period. If you did not receive the complete 941 tax package and would like to, the IRS is advising that you attach a note to your current 941 form asking them to put you back on their tax package mailing list.
Note, most IRS forms and publications are available for download at www.IRS.gov.
