Doug's Articles
Prior to joining the Torch Group, Doug spent two years with SearchPath International, a franchisor of contingency-based recruiting firms. Most recently, Doug served as SPI's Director of Franchise Development and Marketing, where he spearheaded the company's marketing, public relations, corporate communications, and franchise sales strategies. Always an advocate for his clients, Doug retooled the company's franchise sales process to create a "mutual exploration" between SPI and its prospects, which resulted in a 59% increase in the company's franchise growth in just one year.
Doug previously served as Director of Marketing and Membership at the Mandel JCC of Cleveland, Northeast Ohio's most comprehensive fitness and community center. Membership increased by more than 20 percent during Doug's tenure, while member retention increased from 66 to 74 percent. He also enhanced the agency's image in the community by broadening the JCC's exposure through the media by nearly 100 percent and by re-branding the organization, utilizing a national campaign created by Landor.
Doug's past accomplishments also include five years managing the marketing efforts for a $30 million annual campaign for one of Northeast Ohio's leading fund-raising and grant-making organizations. He also worked for six years in the Department of Athletics at The Ohio State University, in its sports information and its marketing and promotions departments.
Doug holds a BA in journalism/public relations from The Ohio State University. He serves on boards of several nonprofit organizations and coaches youth baseball.
