The "DARK" side of working virtual or from home!

The "DARK" side of working virtual or from home!
We have all heard of all of teh advantages of using technology to work remotely or from home - but what about the down sides? One of teh obvious is disipline or being organized so that you are allocating the time required to the business. ANother is the 24/7 hook of never leaving yoru business or at least feeling that way. Finally, a potential sore subject, spending 24/7 with your significant other? I am interested in hearing yoru comments about any of the above or new and how you delt/deal with them? Thanks.

Discipline is the most critical aspect of working from home, but I have found that if I organize myself and block out scheduled times, that I am more productive if I work at home. But telecommuting is beneficial when I need to think, write and not be interrupted. Anyone have tricks or tips for staying organized and managing time?

Staying organized is a BIG challenge. I use my PDA w/ACT for my calendar and tasks. I like the idea that I can be anywhere and add-update or modify on the run.

I feel a big key to coping with 24/7 with the significant other is to work in separate areas, have complimentary instead of similar duties, have duties that take each of you away from the facility during the day, have separate interests after hours, and respect each other. It's not for everyone.

I agree with seperating the duties but in a small business there is overlap in almost every area. I have found that having the right mindset is teh most important. Being able to switch hats between 9-5 to your business hats helps the most...and after hours switch to the "you" hat.

I wonder how many people (especially Home Based Businesses) address the issue of talking "business" when they are socializing. Are there rules / guidelines set up to follow?
