A dialog on color of clothes to sales/networking

A dialog on color of clothes to sales/networking
I recently read a book that had a short section prescribing that the color of ones suit or clothes had an effect on sales. It went so far as to say that it was proven that a blue suit would increase sales over a brown one.

First, I was curious if other people subscribed to this belief?

Second, I would like to hear people's thoughts on dressing in the professional world. As I work with many different size companies, Fortune 500 to sole-proprietors, I have seen quite an array of dress in organizations.

How do people think this effects sales? How much? If on a sales call, I wear a blue shirt, but on days I have internal staff meetings I wear a white shirt with a black suit that is more executive - will this make a major impact or is it arbitrary?

John Malloy got us all thinking about 'Dress for Success' over 20 years ago. While styles and attitudes change, one thing is still a constant. Everything you do projects your image and can add to it or detract from it. Clothing and your overall visual impression are still important.

The visual image your attire makes can influence how people react to you and impact your perception of professionalism and credibility. Those reactions can certainly influence sales. Ergo, your clothing can influence your sales results.

Look for current articles on appropriate business attire on Google and share what you find with all of us on MindSpring.
