Tips to Make Your Small Business Appear Larger

Being a small business owner is a challenge in many instances - you are forced to wear many hats in order to manage and run your business efficiently and profitably.  As a small business owner, you should challenge yourself to think big like larger corporations.  Even though your budget can't compare to mega manufacturers, retailers, or service providers, your image can still project big!

Your first and every communication with clients should be professional.  With the current telecommunications and voicemail systems available, you can take advantage of sounding much larger than "Jane Doe" by having calls forwarded to a cell phone or a voicemail box.  In any event, HOW you answer is very important --- always provide a cheerful greeting and project your company name.

Printed correspondence should be a reflection of the brand you have set in place for your company.  Your business card, brochure, and stationery should be consistent and carry the same coloration and distinct characteristics of your special business.

Many small businesses think they are too small for any type of media to share their message.  This is a mistake - a well designed website works wonders for you 24/7, but be certain that your site is professionally constructed and your domain name and e-mail address are consistent with your business name.  The site should provide a basic message that shares your company background and highlights your products or services.  Suggesting a quick visit to your website is a great introduction tool to entice potential customers before you meet with them face to face.

Multimedia can be one of your most important visual marketing tools.  Through the use of video and especially interactive DVD programming, you can share detailed information regarding product lines, company history, service policy, and other "make the sale" information.  The video or DVD is equivalent to having an additional sales agent.  It can be sent prior to your visit and left behind as a promotional reminder after your sales call.  Video portions can also be integrated into a website if desired.  Your company "branding message" carries on for you before, during, and after that all important meeting to generate new business.

The most important fact to keep in mind is: you can appear to be larger than a small business by using multimedia to project your message and image!
