  1. Be complete. Make a New Year’s resolution to complete your profile.

If your LinkedIn Profile is less than 100 percent complete, now is the time to finish it so you turn up better in search results.

Having a complete profile also adds to your credibility. Prospective customers and business partners will have more information about you and your qualifications, helping make you the best choice for business relationships.

To complete you’ll need the following: one current and two past employments, education, summary, specialties, a photo, and at least three
recommendations. The slider bar to the right of your profile indicates your completeness score with tips for completing your profile.
  2. Showcase your skills. Add the “Skills Section” to your profile.

What sets you apart from the crowd? What experience do you have that your competitors may not?

At the heart of the Internet is search, and search relies heavily on keywords. An easy way to include keywords that represent the unique skills you offer is to complete the LinkedIn “Skills Section” that was introduced earlier this year. Up to 50 different skills can be added to your profile.

To add skills, navigate to the “Edit Profile” tab and click “Add Section” just below the “Profile Overview” section. Scroll down to find “Skills” and choose “Add to Profile.” Make sure to add proficiency level and years of experience for each skill.
  3. Make it dynamic. Liven up your page by incorporating apps.

Do you write a blog? Do you have Power Point Presentations to share? Do you regularly attend or host events? LinkedIn offers a variety of applications that add interest and interactivity to your profile.

It’s easy to incorporate a number of apps. From the main toolbar choose “More” and from the pull down menu select “Applications.”Choose those that best suit your needs. For example, if you write a blog in WordPress select the “WordPress App” and configure the settings with your blog’s URL and decide what posts you’d like to appear. Then each time you write a blog post it’s added to the content of your LinkedIn profile creating increased exposure for the post and additional content for your profile.
