As business owners, stereotypes impact our businesses. Stereotypes are making generalizations about a group of people and saying that all people that belong to that group behave the same way. It is a part of human nature to slip into stereotypes whether it is consciously or unconsciously. Therefore, as business owners, we are no different than others and not immune to stereotypes.

First of all, people stereotype us as entrepreneurs. Second, we stereotype potential clients. Also, vendors stereotype us, and we stereotype our vendors. Additionally, entrepreneurs stereotype one another based on the different industries and areas of expertise.
Stereotypes often dictate the way we interact with others and how they interact with us. Vast generalizations cause people not get to know others as individuals. This can get in the way of building rapport and relationships with our clients, vendors, colleagues, and strategic partners. Relationships are important to entrepreneurs.

It is important for all of us to know ourselves, be aware of the stereotypes that we hold, and make sure we are not acting on those stereotypes. We have to challenge ourselves and think when stereotypes come to our mind. We have to be open to people and learn about them. In this process so many stereotypes are broken. This will help us to be more successful business owners as we are more open to our clients, colleagues, vendors, and strategic partners.
