Your company's culture & productivity directly relates to the management style of the owner(s) - from the top down.  When was the last time you took a step back and reviewed your management style so you can evolve & stay in tune with "best practices" for today?  Many think that throwing money at people or a pizza party once in awhile takes care of that - wrong!

Putting aside a fair wage, what your people want (need) are 2 primary things: Recognition & Control/Authority to take care of the responsibilities you have bestowed on them.  People are smart and recognize the difference between an attempt and actually living it.  That difference is consistency and your actions speak much louder than words.  Best of all it doesn't have to cost you more money.

The "ART" of leadership is to get people to do what you want done - because they want to." Eisenhower"

A culture that motivates is not only fun but motivated people will move mountains and it starts with you.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself, keeping in mind: "Nothing Changes unless something changes".

  • Do you consistently recognize people for what they do on a daily basis? Catching them doing something right!
  • Do you set clear objectives and make sure they have the tools & control to be successful?
  • Is the lowest level position (person) in your company given the same level of respect & dignity that the highest level gets?
  • Do you have "pets" and does it show?

Start at the TOP

The best place to start to grow/turn your business around is with your greatest asset - your people!  Even in these challenging economic times!  It "must" start at the top, be consistent and you must truly believe it.

Take an honest look at how you manage your people and figure out a way to change that style to "coaching" - your bottom line & CPA will appreciate it and SO WILL YOU.
