HOW TO OFFER AN EFFECTIVE APOLOGY & BE AMAZED AT THE RESULTS
1) Acknowledge the error/shortcoming.
2) Provide an explanation (not excuse) for what took place and why.
3) The apology must be sincere. If not, you're not ready to apologize.
4) Ideally your attitude should be non defensive and non begrudging.
5) Make amends or restitution. Provide a very clear statement of what corrective action you will take/make and what the offended party can expect. Do not overpromise corrective actions - otherwise it's highly likely that you will feel resentful toward the other party.
6) Deliver on your promises and follow through.
