In the recently released Internal Revenue Service Summertime Tax Tip 2009-04 titled Tax Tips for Recently Married Taxpayers the IRS tries to provide some guidance for recently married taxpayers.  The following is a summary of the items listed in the tax tip.

1.  Report any name change to the Social Security Administration using form SS-5.  The form can be obtained at your local Social Security Administration office or by calling 800-772-1213 or online at http://www.socialsecurity.gov

2.  Report any change of address to the Internal Revenue Service by filing Form 8822. Form 8822 titled Change of Address can be obtained by calling 800-829-3676 or online at http://www.irs.gov

3.  You should also notify the U.S. Postal Service and your employer of any address changes or name changes.

4.  If you receive W-2 income (wage income), you will most likely need to file a new W-4 with your employer.  Failure to file a new W-4 with your employer may result in either too much or too little federal withholding being withheld from your pay.

IRS Summertime Tax Tip 2009-04 can be found on the Internal Revenue Service website at http://www.irs.gov
